Trial Proposal: Design & Art Working Group(DAWG)

Introducing the Jup Design Labs

Giant Unified Market is big, and so is its need for a unified brand. Jup Design Labs is aligning Jupiter’s branding, creating strong, consistent visuals that let the working groups and regional initiatives focus on what truly matters.

We recognize the crucial role of UX in Jupiter’s ecosystem. Since launching in October 2024, the DAWG has received DAO grants and contributed to multiple projects, collaborating across all Working Groups, including Trial WGs and regional initiatives.

Now, we aim to formalize our efforts as a Trial Working Group, ensuring continued delivery of high-quality design solutions within the Jupiverse.

Problem Statement
Before Jup Design Labs, design consistency across the Jupiverse was a challenge. Many assets created by WGs and Catdets didn’t fully align with Jupiter’s visual identity, making it harder for teams to work efficiently, communicate clearly, and maintain a cohesive brand.

Solutions Provided So Far
Over the past four months, Jup Design Labs has tackled these issues head-on:

  1. Event Design for Catstanbul: Worked closely with the Jupiter team on their first-ever community event, Catstanbul, to design event materials, including badges, lanyards, and floor plan designs.

  2. Supporting Uplink: As the content mafia for Jupiter, our design work has contributed to Uplink’s outreach success, including creating flyers, animated stickers, and YouTube thumbnails. These efforts have boosted community engagement and reinforced their messaging across Discord, Telegram and other platforms.

  3. Initial Mascot Concepts and Merch for Regional Initiatives: As we work to connect the Jupiverse on a global scale, we’ve developed a mascot for Jup France. This mascot is a key part of our strategy to engage regional communities and bring them closer to Jupiter. We also designed merch for Jup Japan.

  4. Establishing Brand Guidelines for WGs: Created brand guidelines for Jup & Juice and the Catdet Working Group, ensuring that design assets are consistent, professional, and easy to produce.

  5. Websites Redesign: The welcome.jup.ag site was challenging for crypto newcomers to navigate. In collaboration with the CWG, a redesign was proposed to improve clarity and engagement. While not implemented, it offered a more intuitive experience. Likewise, the jup.eco landing page was refined for better usability and communication.

  6. Building the Design Community: Using a PPP-driven approach, we successfully organized a 4-week design boot camp that attracted over 5,000 attendees across Discord and X. This initiative played a key role in onboarding more designers into the ecosystem, expanding the community, and fostering growth.

Our Vision

Our broader vision is to create a standardized design workflow across the Jupiverse, empowering working groups, regional initiatives, grantees, and anyone in need of design support to focus on their core objectives rather than logistics.

Focus Areas for the Next 3 Months

  • Develop a cohesive design system for Jupiter DAO and collaborate with the Core Working Group (CWG) to ensure smooth implementation.
  • Provide dedicated design support to Working Groups, Regional Initiatives, and Grantees, helping them create high-quality visuals that align with Jupiter’s brand identity.
  • Expand Jupiter’s promotional assets, including an extended library of animated stickers, and work with Uplink to optimize their distribution and usage across platforms.
  • Host practical design workshops to equip community members with skills, enabling more effective contributions to the Jupiverse.

Budget
To operate effectively as a Trial Working Group, we are requesting a total budget of $69,000 for a 3-month period. Of this amount, $54,000 will cover the core operations for the initial 3 months, while the remaining $15,000 is reserved as a one-month stop-gap fund.

If the Trial Working Group transitions into a full Working Group through a DAO vote at the end of the 3-month period, we will return the $15,000 stop-gap budget to the DAO wallet. However, if there are voting delays, we will extend our work by an additional month and utilize the stop-gap budget accordingly.

Why This Matters
A giant, unified market is more than just about aesthetics; it’s about fostering clear communication, deeper engagement, and long-term brand growth. With Jup Design Labs as a Trial Working Group, we can ensure that design becomes a foundational pillar of the Jupiverse, enabling every working group, grantee, and community member to present their best work.

Let’s build a Jupiverse that not only functions seamlessly but also embodies a visually compelling and cohesive identity for sustained growth and success. Thank you!

Community Q & A

Success Metrics:
While KPIs are not fixed due to the dynamic nature of the DAO, we are committed to supporting 5 working groups and approximately 16 regional initiatives with design solutions. We are also hosting a design bootcamp to further upskill the community. These initiatives, including the bootcamp, will serve as our primary measure of success.

Community Involvement:
The community pool is set aside for involving the broader community through bounties and design contributions. This ensures that the initiative remains decentralized and that more people can actively participate.

Overlap with Other Groups:
As the pioneers of the design group in JupDAO, our team is responsible for setting up the systems that will support potential future sub-groups. We will coordinate through regular meetings and a shared platform to ensure alignment. This approach will help us stay efficient and foster innovation across the community.

Governance and Sustainability:
The governance structure will be transparent, with ongoing input from the community. We’ve also planned for long-term sustainability by offering design resources and ensuring continuous engagement within the community.

I’d like to be a part of this workgroup I run a digital agency for over a decade by the name of Off-road studios www.offroadstudios.com we have been a pioneer in the digital era and I’d like to play ky part for towards streamlining the brand identify and the UI UX as well as the development how do I do it ?

As I was reading this, I couldn’t help but think wow I love their work! Or “ I didn’t know those were the ones that made it. That’s awesome.”

However, don’t you think 5K per month per person is a little extreme?

I think it is particularly for only a three month period.

grossly OVERPRICED, IMO a more meticulous budget breakdown would be ideal, team compensation is literally over 86% of the total funds requested which makes zero sense. the $$ requested and the value offered dont match STRONG NO TO THIS ONE. THIS FEELS AND LOOKS LIKE VALUE EXTRACTION THROUGH DAO APPROVED MECHANISMS.

Design and ui ux is always under rated even though it the success of any product majorly depends upon it whilst I would rate 5000 on a higher end but to create a high end product you need a high end team with there full focus and energy on the product ! Coming from a design background that’s what my perspective is

Thank you for reviewing our proposal and sharing your feedback, Lochie. I believe the amount is reasonable, considering we’re creating a design system for the DAO, collaborating with multiple groups to support design efforts, and holding weekly design meetings to train others in the community.

You’re entitled to your opinion, but I’d like to clarify that Jup Design Labs brings significant value to the DAO.

We actively support all working groups with design solutions and provide materials to at least 15 regions worldwide, helping enhance their IRL events and social media outreach.

In addition, we host regular design sessions to train those interested in design, equipping them with skills they can apply within the DAO or in external opportunities. Our goal is not just to solve design problems but to empower individuals and strengthen the community as a whole.

Look I think the quality of work is amazing but it’s well above other WG budgets who have greater scope.

As the current proposal stands I’ll respectfully be voting no, unless amendments are made to the budget.

All the best luck to you however  I’m just one person

I started as a no1 in this community. Then catalytics came up and we created our X account.
In the beginning we didnt even have a logo. I reached out to Adeda and asked for help and for some tips. Then we came up with the Catalytics Designer Grant and Adeda help us with creating a logo a banner and with picking up the best designer for our team. We relied on her and she delivered. The same happened when we launched the devrel initiate and even today before i post the devrel trial proposal Adeda helped us with the banners we posted in our proposal.

She is a great person and does some great quality design. Its a yes from me because we need people that are able to deliver and help others. I am also quite sure that she is a great leader too

I think the work is definitely top notch and believe you have already added value to JUP, but based on the current budget I will have to vote no as well. I feel like the 5000 a month is just being thrown around now because it passed. I feel that is a little high especially for a trial working group. I understand that time is precious and that you are hosting meetings to help others learn, but that still seems quite high. Maybe the lead can be justified at 5k and the ones under her less. Just my opinion.

Lots of public work already, good collaboration already as a grantee group too!

Great to see these talented people come to the Jupiverse.

Design and art play a big role in web3 as we know, it’s important that we have the best possible and retain them with proper resources and community.

I am in support of this proposal, especially as this team has proven themselves with amazing designs that has helped out Jupiter itself, and several other Jupiter WGs (work groups) already.

Also cool to see that the DAWG team contributed to Catstanbul event design! I was originally not aware of this. Very well done!

Brand guidelines for other WGs and teams within the Jupiverse will be well needed as it helps keep themes and logos somewhat consistent and cohesive, but also allows each work group to form a brand identity according to its duties. Awesome job with CAWG and Jup & Juice.

I also love the Catstanbul conference logo, and the telegram Jupiter cat stickers

Well, design is great but for area you’ve chose i vote no.
Maybe lead can be paid 5k per month, but reasonable salary for team members would be not greater than 2k-3k/month in my opinion
