Thoughts on a fair Jupiter airdrop criteria

As Juparary approaches and the potential for a token snapshot in November becomes more likely, it’s crucial that the criteria for airdrop eligibility go beyond simple token holdings. To reflect the true engagement and contribution of the Jupiter community, the focus should be on time weighted staking, trading volume on Jupiter DEX, and active participation in Jupiter DAO (in my opinion) . These metrics capture the depth of involvement in the ecosystem and ensure that the most dedicated members are rewarded.

1.Time-Weighted Staking and Volume on Jupiter DEX
Time-weighted staking rewards users who have been consistently supporting the network by staking their tokens for the long haul. This approach discourages short term speculation and fosters a sense of loyalty, which is essential for the long term health of the ecosystem. Additionally, trading volume on Jupiter DEX shows active involvement in providing liquidity and boosting market activity, which helps stabilize prices and create better trading opportunities for all users. By emphasizing these factors, the airdrop will target those who have truly contributed to the ecosystem’s growth.
2.Active Participation in Jupiter DAO
The Jupiter DAO plays a central role in the governance of the ecosystem, and those who regularly engage with it demonstrate their commitment to Jupiter’s future. Participation in governance discussions and voting is a clear indicator of long-term interest and alignment with the platform’s vision. Rewarding active DAO members ensures that the airdrop goes to users who are not just financially invested but also actively shaping the platform’s trajectory.
3.Potential Multiplier Actions for Additional Rewards-
To further enhance the fairness of Juparary, additional multipliers could be added for actions that demonstrate even deeper engagement. For instance, early adoption of Jupiter DEX, voting consistency within the DAO, and maintaining larger staking amounts over extended periods could all be considered for bonus rewards. Other activities, such as bug bounty participation or community contributions like educational content creation, should also be considered as multipliers. These actions go beyond mere financial contributions and help build a thriving, sustainable ecosystem, deserving of enhanced airdrop rewards. Feel free to let me hear your thoughts if you agree/ disagree and additional points :grinning:

First of all this is a great right up, well done!
I agree with all the points you said, however don’t think those alone should be criteria.

Regarding the comment above I don’t agree however in saying that voting and staking is a clear indicator of long term success 100%. Reason for that is, there is a lot of Sybil voters / stakers doing this.
As you can see in another post, there is a few 100,000 people with 1 jup staked thinking they are beating the system.

I think the most clear indication is looking at those who show up each day in the discord, X and here.

This would be cool to see too. That’d change the structure of jupuary a little, but change is good thing. I’d love so see all my cadets and cats of culture get a Multiplier as they truely demonstrate PPP:green_heart::muscle:t4:

Such a good write up, I think the team said we’re still going to talk more about the criteria of Jupnuary is the next few months and voting on it criteria as well. But my suggest propose will always be product users.
Product like, DCA, VA, Perpetual, Limit order, swap, Ape, lock and small allocation to stakers because 100 millon jup have been allocated during ASR. And active community members who have been showing up to show support like on platenary, discord, Reddit, X and more as you stated above.

Hmmm… I honestly would like this to be as fair as possible but I don’t know if swap volume means that much anymore… Not only it’s been farmed like crazy since last Jupuary anticipating it would make a difference this year, but it’s also the best, there’s no reason not to choose to swap on jup, since it’s always the best prices, super fast, and kinda everything one needs on solana. Rewarding simply swapping on jup is like rewarding trading on solana. I think using other jup functions like Lfg volume, ape volume, dca/va, LOs, perps, lock, are more impactul to growing the Jupiverse than swapping is…

The saga begins
From precedent, I expect plenty more thorough discussions about criteria

I think every active members of jupiverse knows the appropriate criteria for next jupnuary just that we can’t finalize now, the next jupnuary could probably be for human not bot. swap volume everybody in solana do that but community engagement like the daos and everyone at jupiverse they are the real OGs. The next jupnuary the real Cat will not be left out. Be a good supporting Cat :smiley_cat:.

@BAYZWISE
simply facts, moreover, drops are tending towards that now, and i expect jupuary to be no different

I fancy the simple idea that it would be anything inside these categories:

  • Operations = help develop or use JUP products & services
  • Service = assist the community
  • Marketing = help expand JUP ecosystem

I would exclude everything that is already being rewarded (like the DAO)

The next jupnuary criteria is obvious be consistency! Simple :slightly_smiling_face:

Thanks for putting in this much effort to draft this proposal. It’s well written.
I support this proposal. Simply using token holdings as the sole criteria for airdrop eligibility overlooks the valuable contributions of community members who are deeply engaged in the ecosystem. By incorporating time-weighted staking, trading volume on Jupiter DEX and active participation in Jupiter DAO, the criteria will reflect a more accurate measure of commitment and involvement. This approach ensures that those who are actively contributing to the growth and sustainability of the project are rightfully rewarded, fostering long-term loyalty and strengthening the community.

In addition, it’s crucial that the team considers every means possible to reduce Sybil attacks to avoid exploitation of the airdrop process. After a year of observing ecosystem behaviour, I trust the team has identified key indicators to gauge engagement and involvement and I hope they have been consolidating these insights with the suggestions being made while remaining open to new ideas. The sector evolves quickly and it’s important to stay adaptive. I’m confident the Jupiter team will make thoughtful decisions that benefit Juppers and strengthen the ecosystem overall.

Thank you for starting this topic.
I think usage of JUP products must be rewarded. I understand that people want to reward DAO engagement, but isn’t the Jupuary goal to bring more people onto DAO?
If you only reward those who are already here, that does not look like a good incentive for users to be involved as actors.

It’s a great proposal, however the only thing that i don’t think it matters anymore is the volume. Volume was a criteria before the farming was such a big niche, nowadays one can easily simulate big volumes with small amount of money. The projects have noticed that and are cautious about it and that’s why it isn’t a criteria anymore - see L0 and ZKS. However i think time spent on the platform is a thing that is very difficult to game. I am talking about the consistent dao voting and having staked amounts of JUP for a long period of time. The other criterias might be just using the JUP dex niche products like dca, limit orders, VA, etc. and they can act as multipliers for example

Yes usage of Jupiter dex should be rewarded but also as I stated dao is not the sole criteria that I think it should be based upon. juparary I think should have a few criteria’s to make it inclusive

I agree when u vote with a certain amount staked or interact with dao, post twitter threads and in discord it does show characteristics of a human being . I know those are not the only way to differentiate between a bot and human but they do help just to clarify

It is true that swap was the main criteria and most people use it in anticipation that it can be the same this time around But even if that is the case swap is the go to function of jup and will always be the most used when it comes to Jupiter users in my opinion. Even if new features are pushed out daily swap will be number one. To clarify I wasn’t saying swap should be the sole main criteria but one of because Jupiter is expensive with multiple uses so I was just stating that I think it should still be one of but not the only one to make it fair for everyone who uses platform. For example I think juparary should be based off 5-10 unique criteria’s that users interacting with the platform hit so its just not one main thing so everyone gets a piece of the pie so to say

Yea I I understand where your coming from with the Sybil stakers but team could implement a minimum jup hold amount to get rid of most of those guys many teams have done it before as well

True i know stakers already getting asr but when u think about it even making it part of the criteria for this juparary (if it passes) will lead both new and old participants to lock some of there jup allocation if not all.In anticipation that it will be a criteria of the next juparary. Could very well ease sell pressure incentivizing more jup to get locked up apart from asr allocation. Just where my train of thought was leading but I appreciate the input  thank you

I don’t believe Jupuary should reward only stakers and voters. The goal should be to attract more users to Solana and Jupiter, not just reward those who are already part of the ecosystem. Additionally, there are already rewards like the ASR that serve that purpose.
Jupuary should focus on rewarding individuals who actively engage with Jupiter’s products and participate in various platforms and discussions.

Good point. There needs to be a balance. It’s important to reward those who have shown long-term, unwavering commitment to the ecosystem to keep building a strong foundation, while also providing incentives to attract new users. This will help expand and re-energise the ecosystem, broadening its core and further strengthening the foundation that Jupiter is working to enhance.

Yes exactly!
If i am a new user, get rewards for this AND see that long terme commited people also get rewards, that can be a good incentive to make me involved in JUP and discover how incredible it is!
