The Logo Dispute

I decided to write this essay article because of a conversation I had in the community.

I mentioned that the Logo vote was a dispute and got responses from a few people saying

…lol…there was no dispute and that the word “dispute” is harsh.

And there wasn’t an opportunity to have a full discussion about it…so I thought to explain further here.

[ Also…the tone is from a debate perspective so there is a lot of “did you know” being referenced but that is just my persuasive writing style

…there is no animosity ]

:warning: The Jupiter Context

:white_check_mark: Jupiter is a financial & technological business.

:white_check_mark: Jupiter is building to scale at a global & multinational level.

:white_check_mark: Jupiter is building towards attaining significant institutional, corporate, government & nationwide support.

:warning: The Logo Dispute

The business logo is what was being brought into question.

If it were the DAO mascot…that would be an entirely different conversation.

→ But the business context instantly makes it a dispute level issue.

The same logo that would would represent Jupiter to major institutions, corporations, governments & nations

…almost changed to a random cat symbol because of a catstanbul theme???

:warning: Did you know that the original inspiration for the Apple Logo was Issac Newton?!

→ The man who discovered GRAVITY!

Pic depicted is Isaac Newton sitting under an apple tree with a glowing apple about to fall on his head.

[ They simplified it to the apple because the original design was too complex ]

:white_check_mark: This was inspired by the famous story of Newton’s discovery of gravity.

:white_check_mark: The design aimed to symbolize knowledge, discovery, and innovation.

→ And Jupiter…the financial & tech future of Web 3 [ and supposedly the world ] could have been a random CAT symbol???

:warning: Did you know that the Tesla “T” logo is a stylized representation of a cross-section of an electric motor

…specifically a design inspired by Nikola Tesla’s AC induction motor!

→ As I’ve said in the full version of my leadership & governance concept proposal

:warning: The illusion of the overall Web 3 business narrative is…

“Web 2 is stupid with all the systems and rules and structures…let’s get rid of everything and do it the way we want.”

[ And we’ve seen the devastating consequences that belief has gotten us as an industry. ]

:warning:Where is the BRAND MARKETING STRATEGIST?!

Who created & approved the cat logo idea?!

Honestly was so surprised and relieved that there were enough community members that saw that the logo change was a really bad idea.

The situation would have been much…much worse otherwise.

:warning:NB…A disagreement transitions into a dispute the more it becomes serious, unresolved or requires formal intervention to settle the issue.

You may argue that the logo conversation was settled as a “disagreement”…but the CONTEXT of the issue was certainly a dispute.

…the conversation definitely would have escalated if the Jupiter logo had been changed.

→ Do I really need to tell you how many millions and potential billions of brand value and equity would have been lost?

→ Do I have to explain the costly damage to brand trust and perception?

→ Do I have to list all the ways the brand positioning and recognition would have to pay for this decision ?

:warning:Did you know that the iconic Nike Swoosh logo was created in 1971 by Carolyn Davidson…and she was paid $35 for it but was later given Nike stock when the company went public in 1983.

That stock is now worth several millions of dollars as the Nike BRAND itself is valued at 29.8 billion.

[2024 stats published Jan 2025]

→ The Swoosh symbolizes the wing of the Greek goddess Nike, the goddess of victory, aligning with the brand’s mission to inspire athletes to reach their full potential.

Look at the meaning, significance, importance and impact of the these billion dollar companies Apple, Tesla, Nike

…and tell me if you think the logo didn’t greatly contribute to their success…

:white_check_mark: Apple: Isaac Newton [ man who discovered gravity ] sitting under an apple tree with a glowing apple about to fall on his head.

[simplified to the apple icon ]

:white_check_mark: Tesla: representation of a cross-section of an electric motor inspired by Nikola Tesla’s AC induction motor

:white_check_mark: Nike: Swoosh symbolizes the wing of the Greek goddess Nike, the goddess of victory, aligning with the brand’s mission to inspire athletes to reach their full potential.

Tell me again if you think the Jupiter logo issue was just a “simple disagreement”

Haha nice essay! I totally agree (on a Business Logo level).

This proposal wasn’t about the Business Logo but about the X (twitter) Logo. :kissing_cat:
I voted No anyways, for the same reasons. :joy_cat:

Cheers! :sailboat:

Yes it was so not needed and most had the foresight to stick with the original. Having a brand / logo that has already had some time in the space to be recognised by most solana users would have just confused everyone. Plus it can give the subconscious message the company is not good enough.

Wow…SailorJupiter…I actually missed the “Twitter” part…and it’s actually just as bad in terms of the brand strategy.

Social Media is a HUGE component of branding.
And Twitter would easily be considered the core social platform.

So if Jupiter is on 5 social platforms and Twitter [ arguably ] is the central platform with a different logo from everything else

…what kind of brand messaging does that send?

Brand cohesion is crucial…the whole thing was just so confusing

…there is literally no company that would do this…and certainly not global finance & tech companies.

So yeah…the core argument still stands despite the specific circumstances…

Glad you voted no :slightly_smiling_face:

My vote was for “NO”

As being a new citizen of this society, my opinion is only that. For 7 years I have been fascinated with Jupiter. It started it out when I noticed it on Coingecko. What was this strange little crypto coin that wasnt Etherum based? I always go for the underdog, so I bought 100 shares, sometimes $.72, embarasssing but optimistic, one time for $1.26 a share. I have always kept tabs on Jupiter, and the Logo was the eye catcher for me. Their were scam Jupiters out there, naaaaah, thats not real. would see the real Logo, thats it.!!! Brand Recognition is a good thing.

Wow…Richard…I didn’t get into the security aspect of things…but that is a HUGE point.

The logo change would have definitely raised red flags.

The Jupiter Exchange page even got hacked a short while after the vote.

Imagine seeing the page [ that just got hacked ] with a random cat symbol logo.

The legitimacy, credibility & reputation of the account would definitely be questioned, doubted & distrusted.

At first glance some people would have labeled it as a scam account if they saw it on their feed.

Yeah…really dodged a bullet with that one.

trying to turn the logo into cat ears was probably the most Freudian slip I’ve seen from this team that very clearly knew : Trump coin was coming / liquidity pool was being made

And many other things that have added to a very silly vibe in the space

The absolute last thing this exchange needed was a fkn cat logo but again. The market is telling you all of this with the price action imho

Hope this helps !

@lil_cadet Yeah…when you zoom out and put the logo vote into the context of everything that happened since January it gets insane.

When I asked…

those really weren’t rhetorical questions…I plan to find out the answers…

I’m just making a careful approach in stages because of all the crazy things that have happened…[ and are still happening ]

 I enjoy this narrative ..
Never aprove the Logo Cat.. that idea was out of mind. Unnecessary proposal .. was one of the votes to read diff views and feeling

Interesting to read your perception about what happened between the time of the vote for the logo change and the MEOW account hack. Every day, I learn more by reading your posts. My investment in relation to Jupiter, after so much of a decline, is somewhat balanced by the current learning and the wait. Thanks for this contribution.

I agree that brand recognition is important, even more in web3. “If it aint broke dont fix it”. I honestly just thought it was more of a fun vote to keep the community active.

@mattskibro actually…the idea of the “fun vote” is a big part of the problem.

The voting system shouldn’t be used for “fun”…if it’s to be taken seriously as a crucial aspect of the governance infrastructure.

In fact…I would go as far as to say that the “logo vote” undermined the value of the voting mechanism.
