Should Meow Get 220 Million Tokens? Why This Could Make or Break Jupiter’s Future

The Proposal Is Too Vague
The proposal, as it stands, is way too vague. We are talking about billions of dollars in future value here. These unclear terms are highly risky and could lead to disastrous consequences down the line. The lack of specifics creates an environment where Meow could be disadvantaged in the future. It’s important that any agreement is transparent and clear to protect both Meow and the community.

  • Rewarding Meow: Deserving But Excessive
I completely understand that Meow deserves a bonus for his leadership and hard work. He’s played an integral role in the success of Jupiter, and rewarding him is reasonable. However, 220 million tokens as a bonus is an absurd amount. It’s the equivalent of almost three years’ worth of salary for the entire team. Does it really make sense to reward one person at this scale when the rest of the team is also contributing to the success of the protocol? There’s a better way to incentivize him without such an extreme payout.
  • Team Funding
Instead of giving Meow such a massive bonus, we could fund the team more. . It’s important that the team’s work and contributions are properly incentivized too. With the success of the project, the team deserves to be rewarded for their efforts, rather than giving an enormous chunk of tokens to one individual(This bonus is allmost the same size as funding the whole team for 3 years… let that sink in).
  • Incentivizing Meow vs. Ensuring Fairness
It’s critical to incentivize Meow, but it must be done in a way that ensures fairness to everyone involved. The proposal risks giving Meow a disproportionate amount of power in the project, and this is where the concerns start. If the token price shoots up, we could be looking at billions of dollars in value, and giving him that much control could be problematic. We need to ensure that the community remains the core of the project and not just one person or entity.
  • The Risk of Centralization
The centralization of voting power is a serious concern here. If Meow were to control that much of the token supply, it would skew the governance and voting process. The whole point of a decentralized protocol is to distribute control, and giving one person that much power goes against this principle. Centralization like this could lead to Meow having the ability to change or completely control the direction of the project, which is dangerous for the long-term stability of Jupiter.
  • The Potential for Abuse
Meow has not specified what he plans to do with these tokens. Technically, he could sell them in the future, causing a massive price dump. While we trust Meow, no one should have that much power to impact the entire protocol negatively. It’s important that we create safeguards to protect the project and its community, ensuring that no one can derail the progress that has been made.
  • Clarifying the Community’s Voice
The value of this project lies in the collective effort of the community. It’s essential that any reward system reflects the contributions of the entire ecosystem, not just one individual. The decision should align with the collective interests of all stakeholders to maintain a balanced and fair system. If we can ensure that this reward is in line with the overall health of the community, it would be much more acceptable.
  • Acknowledge Meow’s Contributions
Meow has done a tremendous amount for the project and the community. His leadership and vision have been integral to Jupiter’s success so far, and rewarding him for that is certainly valid. However, the proposed bonus feels disproportionate compared to the work of the rest of the team and the community. There are better ways to reward him for his contributions without putting the entire future of the project at risk.
  • A Possible Middle Ground
A strong incentive for Meow is important, but it’s critical to make sure that the rewards are balanced and sustainable. If proper safeguards are put in place, a fair agreement could be beneficial for everyone in the long run. What if we were to set a lower cap for the bonus, based on milestones or performance? This way, the reward still reflects Meow’s contributions but remains reasonable in the context of the project’s future success.
  • Closing Thoughts
If you agree like me that Meow deserves a bonus, I understand that completely. However, 220 million tokens is too much, and that’s why I personally lean towards voting no. This proposal risks giving one individual too much power and could result in an unfair distribution of rewards. The health of the project and fairness to the community should be the priority when deciding how to reward Meow for his hard work.

Well written brother

I agree with your points

Issues

  1. Amount is excess
  2. 2 280m for 65 people ?
  3. Only 4 year vest?

A mature and transparent DAO: Detailed information should be provided before voting, rather than being disclosed only after the vote has passed.
For example: The 2030 proposal lacks sufficient detail. How will the 220 million JUP reward be unlocked in 2030—linearly or all at once? Combined with Meow’s 280 million JUP, new community members joining in 2030 might complain about such a large unlock. Also, how will the current 280 million JUP be distributed among the 65 individuals? Is there a timeline? Will it be audited? Some previous proposals were passed first and only later had details disclosed, which is an area where the JUP team hasn’t done well.
