Proposal of Multilingual Support in the Jupiter Mobile App

Problem: Language Barrier on Jupiter Mobile

The Jupiter Mobile app aims to serve its global community. However, the current limitation in language support makes it difficult for users who speak different languages to utilize the app’s features fully. Language barriers between regional communities may hinder information sharing and negatively impact the user experience.

Challenges posed by the lack of language support include:

  • Limited Accessibility: Users who do not speak English may not fully benefit from the app’s features and services.
  • Information Asymmetry: Language differences can make it harder for some communities to access accurate information or contribute effectively.

I know that the app is still very new, and the team likely has other priorities. However, I wanted to highlight this topic as I believe addressing it could significantly enhance the app’s growth and inclusivity.

Solution: Collaboration with Regional Communities for Multilingual Support

This proposal suggests incorporating multilingual support into the Jupiter Mobile app with the help of regional communities. Members of these communities can contribute translations and content support in their respective languages, helping the app reach a broader audience.

Proposed Steps:

  1. Engage with Regional Communities:
  • Community members can volunteer to provide content translations and assist in improving the user interface in their native languages.
  • The Jupiter team can establish a framework to guide and coordinate these contributions.
  1. Develop a Multilingual User Interface:
  • Input from regional communities can enable the app to support multiple languages.
  • Users will have the ability to select their preferred language in the app settings for a personalized experience.
  1. Localization Testing:
  • The implemented language support can be tested with the help of community members.
  • Users can report any issues they encounter, and these can be refined and optimized by other community members who speak the same language. This feedback loop will ensure the language support becomes more effective and accurate.

Benefits

  1. Broader User Base:
  • Multilingual support will allow the app to be adopted more widely by users in various regions, contributing to the app’s growth and the community’s expansion.
  1. Community Collaboration:
  • The process of working together to overcome language barriers will strengthen the unity and solidarity of the community. Some communities have already expressed their willingness to contribute to this effort.
  1. Enhanced User Experience:
  • Language support will help users better understand and engage with the app, improving their overall experience.

One of the immediately interesting things about the discord. There is a section where the general chat (I imagine) is divided by language

This would be a great way to utilize cadets or active members already in the Jupiverse to take an active role in helping develop the products further.

From what I have observed in the other chats they are just as active as the English general chat

But with much less noise. And obscene use of gif premiums.

Def worth a look taking this into the Turkish general chat 🫱🏿

Amongst other places.

Good suggestion bro. The core team is def not native English speakers from what I can tell. I would have thought something like this would have been baked into the app, but no this clocks. Developing for a language written right to left or top to bottom would absolutely have gigantic impacts.

Good stuff man.

Necessary and can make a significant impact especially in this phase of expanding the community. Could actually help to simplify the app more to new cats being onboarded during and after the upcoming Jupuary.
