Proposal for Jupuary - Managing Categories and Reducing Token Dump

1. Problem:

The Jupuary event may lead to a decline in the value of the $JUP token due to farmers seeking to liquidate their tokens quickly. This creates a negative dynamic for holders, stakers, and voters, who are the true believers in the project. If this decline is not controlled, it risks demotivating the most engaged members of the community.

2. Proposed Solution:

To recognize and reward the different categories of Jupiter users, I propose a balanced distribution of rewards, taking into account the importance of each group in sustaining and growing the ecosystem.

  • Platform Users: They are the backbone of Jupiter. Without them, Jupiter would not have achieved its current success. They represent the foundation of daily operations on the platform.
  • Voters and Stakers: These individuals are the true believers in the project, actively contributing to the DAO. They support the project by staking their tokens for long periods, demonstrating their trust in Jupiter’s future.
  • Discord Roles: Active Discord members play a crucial role in promoting Jupiter on social media and creating a community dynamic. Their contribution also deserves recognition.

3. Reward Distribution:

I propose the following distribution for the rewards:

  • Platform Users: 6% (based on the number of users and their direct impact on trading volumes).
  • Stakers and Voters: 3% to 3.5% (for their commitment and role in supporting governance and stability).
  • Discord Roles: 0.5% to 1% (for their contribution to the community and spreading the message of Jupiter).

This distribution is balanced according to the importance of each category within the Jupiter ecosystem.

4. Proposals to Prevent Token Dumping:

To prevent the token from being dumped during Jupuary, I propose two options for rewards:

  • For Platform Users: Offer the choice between an instant claim with a 50% burn, or a 3-month vesting period for those who prefer a more secure approach.
  • For Stakers and Voters: Implement a system similar to the ASR, where rewards are automatically restaked after an initial 1-month lock.
  • For Discord Roles: Propose a 1-month lock followed by a 6-month vesting period to ensure long-term engagement.

I Think the Discord roles should be in addition to some sort of metric(s) or badge(s) associated with jupresear.ch as I tend to come here instead of Discord, as I enjoy the more in-depth and “serious” tone of this platform.

Some thoughts:

I also was thinking about a setup where all Jupuary tokens are 50% claimed and 50% claimed as staked $JUP.

I would caution against straying too far from the first Jupuary since it was probably the most successful airdrop of the year and I believe in progress BUT also in “Don’t Fix What Ain’t Broken”.

To those worried about swap sybils, I believe Jupiter has the tech to weed out industrial pools (like Layer Zero did). I also think we need this to be a “free money gift” hype inducing CT moment to drive more engagement onto the platform like Jupuary 1 did.

The fee based product volume going up will be immensely important to future token price.

Also, since meow stated from the start, that there would be 4 Jupuary airdrops with a total of 40% of total supply (4B > 3.2B > 2.2B now left) allotted for these, any negative price action will be short term and will not affect holders/stakers/Catdets!

Thanks for taking your time to write this proposal.
I’m starting to get the feeling that the “Jupuary Proposal” might just take the crown for the most debated topic in the DAO this year! There are so many proposals floating around—it’s quite something. Hopefully, the team has enough time to sift through them all. That’s definitely a big task!

Even if a dump happens who cares?

Only those financially driven.

1 JUP = 1 JUP

And

1 vote still = 1 vote.

Exactly, a lot of people are not really grasping this. Token inflation is part of growth and good for healthy protocols long term

I think this might have been true last year, before jupiter exploding with the creation of the DAO. And last Jupuary has rewarded that with the gift that Jupuary is. Since than tho, it has become so obvious that the swap experience is superior to anything else available, that I disagree, if you trade on solana, there’s no better way to swap. Fastest, no fees, best prices. We can’t keep taking credit for using something that we would use anyway. When it comes to other functions like LOs, DCA, VA, Lock, Ape, Fox. There are some other options, and choosing jup is indeed impactful to the platform success. More exactly giving feedback, being engaged, and contributing to its development somehow, even if it’s just reporting bugs.

This is a good idea . But one more think :
third option : Discord ,Twitter , Reddit, and jupresear.ch activity 0.5% to 1% (for their contribution to the community and spreading the message of Jupiter).

I kind of agree with this. The conversations here are without the usual chatters of Discord.

This has valid points but the balance between user’s benefits and project’s benefits is crucial. I agree with taking precautions to prevent dump , it is important to keep time frames not to be seen as “too long”. With or without these needs i believe there will be most logical solution when the time comes

This proposal is exactly my thoughts and views about the drop.
If allocated to different categories as such, there will be a wider reach and more users qualifying based on niche usage.
As such, it would seem the fairest of drops, casting jupiter in very good light, more so, given this period of severe airdrops apathy.

It aint broken truly, but it can be made better.

Also,

I would advocate for a stricter measure.
Lesser percent claim immediately available and a longer lockup/
option of forfeiture of a part for immediate claim as becoming common now.

I think you are missing a significant group - forum users

I am wondering why so many fear Token Dump, when it really has not ever happened at a worrying scope.

Not sure what the underlying issue is really, for me it is all the same- if it works and is stable, risk is super low.

Like with my ASR claim, as if I would bother to extract it… makes no sense. I got more JUP to vote now.
