I wanted to suggest an alternative solution to help community members who are struggling with the upfront cost for Catstanbul 2025. Instead of distributing the subsidy directly to individuals, we could appoint a regional representative to handle the funds centrally.
Here’s how it would work:
Centralized Fund Management: Each region would select a trusted representative to manage the subsidy funds. The representative would use the 2,000 USDC to book flights and accommodation for those who cannot afford it. This ensures the funds go directly to covering travel-related expenses for the event.
Top-Up Mechanism: If any participant needs additional funds beyond the 2,000 USDC for their flight, hotel, or other costs, they would be responsible for topping up the difference. To make this process smooth, we’d set a clear deadline of two weeks for everyone to contribute their respective amounts, ensuring all payments are made in time.
Accountability: The representative would provide regular updates to the group, showing how the funds are being used and confirming bookings. This would maintain transparency and trust within the community.
This solution would allow us to help those who genuinely need support while preventing misuse of the funds, ensuring everyone’s commitment to attending the event.
What do you think of this idea? I’d be happy to discuss further and refine it to ensure it works for everyone.
Too many rug-pulls in this industry. Let individuals distribute their own funds to a person they decide to trust. You could try to create a list of trusted people, but individuals should make that decision on their own.
When you say trusted members, how do we intend to know who we trust?
overall I like the idea cos it’ll also allow new travelers to be well-aided, for instance, this will be my first trip and I am pretty much excited about it, but I am not all that familiar with how to go about, would be better if we a group or something to help us better.
For the funding tbh, it would have been great if we got it before traveling to add up to what we gather up,
Thank you for your thoughtful feedback and support for the idea. I completely understand your concerns regarding trust and the need for a more inclusive approach. Here’s an updated suggestion based on your points:
Formation of a DAO Committee:
Instead of relying on a single representative, we could establish a small committee of trusted members from different regions. This committee would:
Oversee fund management.
Help new travelers with logistics like booking flights and accommodations.
Maintain transparency through regular updates to the community.
Criteria for Selecting Committee Members:
To ensure trust, we could base the selection on:
Past contributions to the DAO.
Their reputation and activity within the community.
Community nominations to ensure inclusivity.
Deadlines and Responsibilities:
The committee would set clear deadlines for participants to confirm their travel needs and provide any required top-up funds. They would ensure all bookings are completed transparently and within budget.
This approach balances the need for accountability with the desire to support first-time travelers and ensure everyone feels guided and included.
Distributing the subsidy funds to individuals is not the problem here.
The concern is what happens if the individual gets the subsidy and then doesn’t show up. This will cause another deserving individual to miss out on catstanbul.
Even with a confirmed booking, one can simply avail the subsidy and then decide to cancel the tickets later.
So the criteria for release of subsidy is
Receipt for your flight to Istanbul
Receipt for hotel booking for 24-27 January 2025
You attending the conference in-person!
The team wants to ensure only those who attend the conference in-person get the subsidy.
I understand there are lot of us who may need the funds before the event to book travel and stay.
But the question is how do you ensure that whoever has got the subsidy will surely attend the conference and not rug pull. If they rug, then there is no way to recover the funds back.
Thank you for your response and for highlighting the concerns about ensuring attendance and preventing misuse of funds. I believe there might have been a misunderstanding of my suggestion.
I didn’t propose distributing the subsidy funds to individuals directly. Instead, I suggested forming a DAO committee within a particular region to oversee the fund management. This committee would be responsible for:
Booking Flights and Accommodation:
They would handle travel logistics for all recipients in their region. This ensures transparency and prevents funds from being misused.
Ensuring Accountability:
By consolidating the funds under the committee’s management, there’s a higher level of oversight, reducing the risk of cancellations or no-shows.
Top-Up Mechanism:
If the funds aren’t enough to cover all costs, recipients would provide any additional amounts needed within a set deadline.
Love this idea! Centralized fund management seems like a great way to ensure the subsidy is used effectively and fairly. Choosing a trusted representative and setting clear guidelines will be key to its success. If there’s a need for help in designing the accountability process or setting timelines, I’d be happy to contribute. Let’s make Catstanbul 2025 accessible for everyone!
