Jupuary airdrop claim experience

Update after the Magic Eden airdrop.

As promised, I would cover the whole airdrop experience after the ME TGE.
So, in my honest opinion, the whole claim was not as bad as I thought it would be. There was a degree of difficulty in the first ~1 hr of the claim due to high traffic on the platform (pretty much expected). The whole process had couple of steps towards the claim, and right after you claimed, you instantly had window pop up as an option to stake the tokens through ME wallet application, incentive towards staking immediately (ranging from 1 day to 4 years, without option to unstake earlier from the date of users choosing). Their rewards system is nothing similar to JUP: they will make their users trade tokens (with high fees compared to JUP), trade NFTs and other tasks for separate 4 weeks through their wallet in order to maximize staking rewards.

All in all, I am relatively pleased to see that the whole TGE event was not a complete disaster as expected by many, but I would strongly oppose the staking program where you are obliged to trade with more $ in order to get maximum rewards (where the platform will make alot of $$$ through the high fees from token and NFT trades)

I would still stay with my opinion that Jupuary airdrop should be claimable BOTH through Mobile app and Desktop website. And by seeing the methods used by other companies, it only attaches me more to the Jupiter as an ecosystem. Cheers!

Good evening Jupiverse!

Wanted to make a statement about the potential claiming options for the Jupuary airdrop and will try to make it as concise as possible.

If I remember correctly, @meow and the team discussed this topic on the first J.U.P. Rally regarding the Jupuary. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I do remember on top of my head that the team mentioned that the whole claiming experience will be directed ONLY through the Jupiter Mobile App.

My suggestion would be that (if technically possible) allow users to claim the drop BOTH through the mobile app and through desktop website. Although I would be completely comfortable with claiming it through mobile app (I am using android version of the app and it’s UI is most definitely gorgeous), I would guess that there would be a lot of people that would find linking the wallets or simply claiming it through the Mobile app confusing/strange.

I am saying all of this because I thoroughly tracked the whole Magic Eden airdrop checker (will update the post after the 10th of December when the airdrop completes) and to say that people are not happy would be an understatement. I am not trying to compare the platforms, IMO the Jupiter team is miles ahead of any other team in the space, but when we have examples of user experience on a large scale (like Magic Eden is) I don’t see a reason why we wouldn’t implement solutions that could suit everyone!

Let me know what you guys think on the topic.

JUP is :house::ringer_planet::heart:

Not sure about this but as long as the mobile app doesn’t have hardware wallet support, lots of people are not willing to import their wallets into it. I’m pretty sure they allow the claim to happen also through the web interface, just like ASR claims.

This is a great idea.

But we wanna onboard people with this drop.

It would be dope to see them download and use the app

I personally wouldn’t transfer my seed to a phone wallet. I’m incredibly paranoid about this but that has served me well in regards to security so far.

For ME, my guess is I’d have made a few hundred at least but I will not be claiming due to the necessity of importing the seed to ME wallet.

The claim should absolutely be available on the web interface.

You don’t need to import your seed into ME wallet. Just create fresh new ME wallet, scan QR code and then link your wallets from desktop browser. Then you’ll need a bit sol on fresh wallet for claiming fees.

It’s retarded, but it is what it is.

Yeah anything that forces people to import a seed phrase is a terrible user experience.

I wouldn’t make changes and wouldn’t even compare Jupiter to Magic Eden. ME claiming process is garbage and that knows everybody. Jupiter did an awesome work for the claiming process in the #1 Jupuary and I don’t see any benefit of spending time on Jupiter app claim process integration instead of focusing flawless process on their website.

Think you’ve raised a good point here for the team to take a look at but the No1 priority is to onboard new users into the Jup ecosystem so my suggestion will be for the team to look at ways to make that smoother via Jup Mobile instead of other avenues. We can’t afford to mess that opportunity to onboard a truck load of new Jup believers through the Mobile app as that will just be a huge missed opportunity.

I explicitly said that I do not compare the platforms. They are not comparable. I am only using ME as an example because it is the most recent one and it is on a fairly large scale.

This is an opportunity to showcase our app. I feel using the app is a good step in the right direction. It is least one can do to get an airdrop.

I would definetly give the users both opions as forcing users to use mobile is not a good tactic. You can brag like ME does about the mobile app usage if you don’t give them any other option, but its not organic. At the end JUP gives option for everything so why not this one as well. I agree on this one with you. :upside_down_face:

i believe the team would come up with something. maybe staked also like the ASR

As dope as it looks
Its unnecessary stress for some to import wallets to a specific app for a simple drop claim

certainly it does sounds good but isnt airdrop supposed to be airdropped? we should be arguing it why we claiming instead. Magic eden process was kinda frustrated aswell and faced huge amount of humiliation for forcing users to connect but u cant get in without mobile app or extension.

if product is too great then end of the day user will find its way, its like forcing to claim, having multiple choices is also cool.

Hi there, thanks for your post. I recall Meow saying that too and I had the same concern, but purely for security purposes. All you ever hear these days is how phones are easy to hack, which adds a whole layer of security that I personally am not comfortable with.

I think I second what @lochie2001 said before. Magic Eden is also trying to onboard new users to their App, so having the claiming option on JUP’s app would be an incentive for them to go download the wallet.

As you have said in your post @SolSixties , we’ll see after December 10th and we will update about the claiming experience!
