As you know, the criteria for Jupuary are not yet fully defined. However, we do know that if you’re a DAO member (staking your Jupiter), you will not receive any rewards from the Jupuary airdrop. This makes sense, as it’s not part of the Jupuary criteria. It’s logical because we’re already receiving ASR rewards.
But there is a significant oversight, a major mistake they’ve made. While we’re not considered a criterion for Jupuary, the Jupiter tokens held by Jupuary recipients will be directly added to our staking pool. This means that, indirectly, Jupuary holders will both receive an airdrop from Jupuary and share in our ASR reward pool alongside us! This is truly an injustice.
If Jupiter stakers are not considered for Jupuary, then Jupuary airdrop recipients should likewise not qualify for ASR rewards. Otherwise, they would be benefiting from both Jupuary and ASR rewards. Meanwhile, stakers, unable to receive Jupuary rewards, will see a substantial reduction in their ASR rewards—from approximately 18% down to as low as 4%.
My proposal is this:
If stakers, the DAO members, are not deemed eligible for Jupuary, then Jupuary airdrop holders should not benefit from ASR rewards. Jupuary airdrop holders can still have a say in governance with their locked Jupiter tokens, but they should not receive rewards from the ASR pool. This is because they are required to hold due to a vesting period, whereas we stakers voluntarily stake our Jupiter solely to have a voice in governance. Otherwise, while they enjoy double rewards, we Jupiter holders not only gain nothing extra but also face a significant decrease in our existing rewards.
I understand your concern here, and ASR dilution is certainly something we should address in one form or another. I would personally like to see a proposal to move the 75% forfeited tokens for early claimers into ASR to bolster the incentive, and to counterweight the dilution.
It is still not known for sure what the criteria will be. It is true that meow commented on it on discord but it can be restified or simply used as a BONUS as he commented. Anyway, I can’t wait any longer, I want to read the official proposal
Yes, this makes a lot of sense, but we can’t leave things to chance. With simple math, if very few people want to claim immediately, this won’t work in our favor. We can’t build Jupiter’s future based on probabilities.
meow also mentioned maybe a bonus for stakers which is under consideration, that’s cool but according to your ideology you mean no stakers use jup products? this is strange i dont think any of those stakers might not be included in jupuary, atleast everyone would be using it regularly for the sake of solana ecosystem, so believe me or not all are part of it only the constant player wins who after all shows indeed the most dedication as organic tag.
talking of ASR this looks like spidermon pointing towards each other, first everyone was concerned about price getting diluted and now its different, but i bet there would be 30-50% forfeiting the tokens as instant claim which will later get added as ASR, i believe.
The mission of jupuary from the onset was to get Jup into the hands of stakers who will actively participate in the DAO.
Most of current stakers enjoying ASR got there entire jup holdings from jupuary 1.
Its only fair new jupuary beneficiaries that stake and participate in DAO equally benefit from ASR.
I think it’s only fair that stakers should get a decent airdrop on the day even though they are already receiving other incentives. Am sure they will continue to benefit from penalty allocation and unclaimed tokens. I did not get that from the video saying they would be ignored and I am a proponent of low capital voters getting a good allocation and volume based dex users also benefitting. I love thé attitude of the team and can see they are good people. I think no one needs to worry here.
While the post is speculative on the criteria, I would like to highlight that more stakers = a good thing for the DAO.
More stakers, more participants, more healthy DAO.
I for sure do not see this as a negative dilution. Say if people buy the token to stake, stakers technically gets diluted as well. But in those terms most people would see it as a positive thing right?
Oh wow, excellent catch here Jupumut. I agree to an extent. More stakers is definitely better than less. But it would be nice if people who made the choice to stake were given some sort of bonus in comparison to the people who had their JUP auto-staked.
The proposal might sound fair at first since it aims to protect the rewards of active DAO members who are voluntarily staking. However, it could unintentionally harm the broader goals of the DAO, particularly around fostering growth and encouraging more involvement in the community. Here are a few reasons why this could be problematic in a broader context:
Discourages New Participants: Excluding Jupuary airdrop holders from ASR rewards could disincentivise them from becoming active members of the DAO. Many of these airdrop holders may be new to the ecosystem and are just beginning to explore their roles within the DAO. By limiting their rewards, the DAO could discourage them from participating further or contributing in meaningful ways.
Creates Divisions Within the Community: Making distinctions between “stakers” and “airdrop holders” might unintentionally foster an “us vs. them” mentality. Such divisions can lead to some tension within the community, making it harder for the DAO to maintain unity and a shared sense of purpose. A more inclusive approach to rewards could foster greater collaboration and cohesion.
My hope is that this Jupuary doesn’t destroy this community. I for example never received any Jup in the 1st Jupuary. After Meow’s insistence that it’s a gift, I don’t plan to go mad if I don’t still qualify for any. I believe in the project! I will accumulate when it’s within my buy zone and stake. See so much value in Jup and hope it gets to where I envision it to. We all shall win either way but agree those who receive these airdrops will win more but they earned it for many other reasons including a bit of luck and so be it.
Not agree at all, my opinion those who received Jupuary 1 should be not eligable for Jupuary 2, all others must receive this drop. Otherwise i will unstake everything after Jan-Mar ASR and will wait good proce to sell, many many people will do same
This isn’t a bad point. People were gifted a lot on the 1st Jupuary and there are many who’ve joined the train after that who never received any. So it’s worth prioritising those if the goal is to expand the Jupiverse by inviting more people to join through this ‘gift’! That said, those who’ve used the ecosystem a lot should be rewarded as well.
My asr reward was not even 1.00 after participating in 3 votes but having 100 jup staked in 2 wallets. Not qualifying for jupuary will be so funny because i received ASR
Also the criteria for both Jup and asr are both very different. One is passive participation and one is very active.
Reading almost anything from anybody on the subject of this is just noise imho. When Jup sets the criteria. That moment will shed much light. Not a moment before.
I just missed the snapshot last November and all my stake minus ASR was bought from what feels like the kind of people who are popping into Jupiter rallys in the last 15 min asking “wen PAOP” or crying that the people who have helped Jupiter reel in Uniswap on volume are going to be well rewarded for it
The catdet above who said that it’s turning into the spidermons pointing at each other meme is spot on. I don’t expect anything or want anyone excluded and look forward regardless to continuing to vote with as much stake weight as I can get, but it’s disappointing to see how deep seated the PVP mindset is
A short term price drop from airdrop dumping is nothing and many will eat that dip. A long term drop in volume from farmers using other DEXs out of spite would be an actual problem
Great proposal, it really opens up a lot of scenarios. My Firm Stance is that Stakers/DAO members are some of the most engaged users of the Jupiter platform, and excluding them from the criteria would indeed overlook a key group of active participants. They’re often the ones that provide the core support and stability to the ecosystem, whether through staking (Price Stability) or governance contributions.
Incentivizing them, even with a smaller allocation, could really help align rewards with the fundamental value they bring to the platform But to exclude them entirely is just bad sport. It’s also a way to recognize their role as long-term supporters, not just users of individual features like perps or swaps should be considered in my opinion. That could make the whole system feel more inclusive and rewarding for all types of participation. I understand that ASR is there to reward Stakers and Voters but everyone knows the secret to that; get involved and get rewarded, Moreover ASR Rewards will be dilated with the new users that get the airdrop.
I was not part of the first Jupuary Drop, and i believe just like you that my participation to the in governance should be considered as part of the criteria and not thrown out because of ASR. It will be extremely funny if they do not consider that as genuine participation in my opinion.
You are correct that would be the fair way to do it, since those and soon to be us stakers would if we got an airdrop would benefit anyways in upcoming drops from rewards and tokens not claimed or early unstaking I guess.
