History
Established in October 2024 following the rise of the first pioneering initiatives to develop Jupiter outside the English-speaking world, this collective of JUP DAO members brings together ambassadors working alone or in teams to conduct initiatives in non-English regional languages, with the goal of increasing Jupiter’s influence in all sectors that use living languages on the web or IRL.
These members are all attached to a regional Jupiter X channel and a regional lounge housed in the Jupiter Space Catdets Discord where they demonstrate their expertise daily to new members to guide them in the Jupiverse. They may also have developed their own Discord to work on their initiative.
Today, the collective includes more than a dozen initiatives and has more than twenty members, actively campaigning every day to encourage the promotion of Jupiter in a language other than English, mainly on X and Discord. Potentially, this activity can develop on any social media platform.
Independence of the collective and its members
This collective is independent, receives no funding, and JUP DAO members carrying a regional project are free to join or not. It is structured as follows:
- Ambassador role for initiative leaders
- Regional role for leader’s teammates
- Collaborator role for grantees or working groups’ members who wish to contribute to regional development in partnership with the ambassadors
- A regional channel available for each language
- Channels dedicated to sharing professional content
Each ambassador is free to adapt their way of doing things to best lead their initiative and he or she and team can count on the group to help him accomplish his project.
This gathering came into being with the aim of creating a place where ambassadors from all over the world could directly share their advice, experience, and point of view on all subjects directly related to their regional initiative in the context of Jupiter’s development outside the English-speaking world.
Taking initiatives in regional languages
We believe that it is useful to make contact from the start, as soon as we identify a project that claims to be from Jupiter promoting the use of a non-English language, to make contact with the new project leaders in order to provide them with the following information:
- An overview of regional initiatives in order to give them an overview of the situation concerning their region
- Moral support to encourage them in the context of their initiative
- Guidance towards community resources to better understand the Jupiverse
- Advice from experienced members to accompany them to microgrants
- A handover to @julianhzhu CAWG to finalize their integration process towards the constitution of a working group
This is why a coordinator* was designated by the ambassadors (majority vote) to be responsible for relations between the collective, the new project leaders, as well as the working groups (WG) and the Jupiter team. This coordinator can speak on behalf of the collective to present the support unit made available to the community by the ambassadors specialized in regional issues, and exchange information necessary for the organization of group actions (for example) with a member of the Jupiter team on request, without obligation.
*the current coordinator is: @chaman
Jupiter Regional’s achievements to date (non-exhaustive list):
- Support for more than fifteen of the most spoken languages in the world, including Chinese, which has received a Jupiter DAO grant.
- Support for all regional Jupiter X pages involved via a Jupiter Regional X page
- Carrying out collective actions at the request of the CWG to support Meow on X
- Organization of a giveaway for each region mobilized as part of the Jup Mobile campaign financed by the Jupiter Team
- Publication of numerous information threads dedicated to Jupiter adapted into regional languages on X and Discord
- Writing articles on Jupresearch
We believe that it is very important that new members of JUP DAO can benefit from a high-quality welcome, and to do this we must be able to quickly provide qualitative answers to the questions they may ask themselves in their preferred language. This concern is all the more true for new regional initiative project leaders, as they are first and foremost members of JUP DAO, but are intended to be on the front line, and may need more specific support.
This is what we offer with Jupiter Regional.
