Since the first vote in March, the DAO has experienced significant growth. More members than ever are collaborating to expand the reach of the Jupiverse.
However, as we grow, certain metrics may no longer serve us as effectively. For instance, each vote requires 60 million votes to be cast for a vote to be considered valid.
As illustrated in the graph below, over time, quorum has been reached with a smaller proportion of total votes, despite increasing participation.
A quorum is the minimum number of votes required for a vote to be considered valid. In the Jupiter DAO, this threshold was initially set to 60 million votes, as shown in the voting interface below.
The quorum ensures that enough votes are cast to adequately represent the DAO during any given decision. Without it, a small group could push through decisions that don’t reflect the community as a whole.
To ensure that votes continue to reflect the will of the entire DAO, we are proposing two options to change this threshold:
Option 1: Increase the quorum from a fixed 60 million votes to 120 million votes. This number would remain the same across votes.
Option 2: Set the quorum to 30% of total staked $JUP. This would make the quorum adjust based on the amount of JUP staked at the time of a vote. See the graphic below for some examples.
I think it looks goods and easy to achieve (120m). Considering the past quarters average total votes.
Revisiting or having a review of the effect of it every quarter or two might be a good way to check if we’re still reaching the threshold or we’re having more cats coming in
More effective to fix it as a percentage of the total rights to vote. In other words (to keep your quorum) 52% of the total rights to vote. It would adjust automatically preserving the scope to represent the majority.
Great to see the DAO growing! Makes perfect sense to increase the quorum needed and in order to reflect that growth.
I saw a few comments suggesting the same, but eventually it might make sense to have the quorum be set as a fixed percentage of the amount of JUP staked at the time voting on the proposal begins. It seems, judging by the last vote’s quorum % in the chart (20%), moving to 120mm would be ~40% (not considering the impact of the latest ASR), and somewhere between 33% and 40% participation would seem like a fair percentage to consider having reached a sufficient quorum.
I am with those that think that a % of total votes should be well. Also think that votes can decrease (maybe in a long time but posible). % resolve any future question about quorum.
