I agree, touch and feel does go a long way in establishing trust. We believe a managed deployment model and a self deployment model are important and both are possible.
We have started with the managed deployment model first , this helps solve a real world problem in an emerging market like India, much faster and more efficiently.
Levers of trust and transparency should be baked in as much as possible as more layers of the network decentralize over time.
It’s also important to note that the enablers of connectivity on our network are stakeholders that also get rewarded for their efforts and contributions to the network.
A self deployment model is part of the road map further down for sure. Immediately the focus is on demand, i.e. providing and propagating connectivity where it matters the most and our managed deployment model is a great way to fast track that.
Hey guys we have a townhall on our discord in about 1.5 hrs where we talk about the state of the network, progress and all things dabba, join in - Discord
Hotspots on the Dabba Network went live on March 2024,
Our network surpassed a monumental 500 TB data consumption mark within 3 months! : x.com
With more devices being actively added, this growth continues with 400 TB of data consumption in the last 2 months.
Our Network Explorer is the best place for live data feed of the metrics
Over 1,500 active devices across homes, offices, co-working and co-living spaces.
Average daily data consumption of 6TB across the network.
Impressive uptime exceeding 95%, ensuring reliable connectivity for users.
2.Data Consumption at Your Location
The Network Explorer provides historical data for individual devices, allowing you to make informed decisions before claiming a hotspot.
Hotspot owners enjoy location flexibility and can relocate their devices as needed.
3.NFT Purchase to Hotspot Installation:
We’re actively aggregating local cable operators (micro ISPs) to continuously expand our network connections.
Our goal is to have a readily available hotspot for you to claim upon joining the Dabba Network.
Hey guys, it’s nice to see Dabba application on LFG! I think Dabba is going to disrupt the DePin space with their managed deployment model as it makes super easy for anyone and from anywhere in the world to take part and invest in the growth story. When I participated in Helium network (when there were a mere 300 hotspots worldwide), the biggest challenge was finding hotspots hosts. I had to contact all my friends residing in US, explain to them for hours on why they should host a hotspot and I used to pay 100$ every month to them as an incentive for hosting a hotspot. All my savings from my small monthly salary was going towards paying those guys. And on top of it, whenever there is a disconnection, I had to call them and request them to restart the hotspot and it used to take a few days or sometimes weeks just to make them restart the device. Haha.
That is why I love the concept of Managed Deployment of Dabba as I don’t have to go through those hassles at all and I can sleep happily thinking the hotspots are in the hands of experts. Owning and maintaining a Dabba hotspot is 10x easier when compared to other DePin projects.
I wish this team all the best and I hope Dabba will take all the right steps and become the biggest DePin project in crypto space and may be the biggest decentralized ISP in the world!
While device ownership is a key component of many DePIN models, it’s not the sole determinant of decentralization.
The Dabba network is a decentralized marketplace that aggregates connectivity providers and consumers. Unlike traditional models, we empower a diverse ecosystem including hotspot owners, local cable operators, location owners, and bandwidth providers.
By leveraging NFTs for device ownership and smart contracts for network operations and interaction between all stakeholders, we’ve created a truly decentralized platform.
Our managed deployment model further simplifies participation, making it accessible to a wider audience to become hotspot owners and also reach location with high data demand. This unique combination of decentralization and accessibility is driving our mission to bridge the digital divide.
Wifi Dabba played a pivotal role in shaping the PM WANI framework, actively collaborating with government entities like the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) as well as private organizations,
As a key player in the public WiFI industry, we contributed significantly to the policy’s design, advocating for a decentralized model that empowers individual entrepreneurs and small businesses.
This enabled the creation of an entirely new sector in Indian telecom with 200 new businesses and 200K devices installed across the country in the last 4 years.
Then it is not DePIN. I mean the “De” in DePIN is not whatever one wants to pull it from. If it is not a decentralized network, but a network that is a decentralized marketplace it feels like a wordplay not much more.
So technically X Twitter is by your definition a DePIN too, it is a decentralized marketplace of ideas, while the physical infrastructure comes from the fact that they have a headquarter and have servers, while every user through his router is an endpoint?
I mean you say it yourself:
By leveraging NFTs for device ownership and smart contracts for network operations and interaction between all stakeholders, we’ve created a truly decentralized platform.
If this is the heart and core of creating a decentralized platform, then all should just pocket trade NFTs.
So on one side it is decentralized and totally open while you can not own anything, on the other side the owners are curated from the top.
So every step in the flywheel from physical ownership, deployments, control, geolocation, infrastructure, access and availability for endconsumer ist centralised and controlled by Dabba, but as anyone can buy the NFT it is elevated to the pinnacle of decentralization?
One of the fundamental ideas Dabba is bringing to the table is the decoupling of ownership of the device and where the device gets deployed. I disagree with the narrow definition that DePin requires that hardware be purchased and deployed by the same person.
That requires, in the begining, a level of centralized coordination because its a new system that needs to be figured out and the most efficient way is to run it with Dabba playing a key role.
Over time, as the system matures and its clear that incentives are working of course we’re going to decentralize every single part of the process.
This view of going from centralized → decentralized comes having spent a lot of time i have spent talking to alot founders of large crypto projects and their singularly unanimous advice has been at the begining, do things with a little centralization and then open it up over time.
We could totally attempt to be decentralized fully from day one, but that would be ignoring the lessons that others who have walked this path successfully are giving us.
Hey @Foxglove , I understand the concern and there’s some misrepresentation in the language we used here, this should lend to some clarity.
We are definitely not curating hotspot buyers, our hotspot sales are open for everyone to partake in. Anyone from around the world can visit our website and purchase a hotspot and participate in our project as a hotspot owner.
When we first opened sales many people from the helium ecosystem participated in our project because of the immediate relation they could make to our project as well as the relationships we had built within those communities over time. The sale of hotspots were always open to everyone and will continue to be that way.
Not curated just the nature of how our early sales kicked off.
As Karam pointed out we are taking a layered approach to decentralizing parts of the network over time, starting with hotspot ownership.
This also ensures that services to end consumers who access the network are not affected. Processes like voting for deployers, hardware manufacturers, backhaul providers etc. are being created as we build out the network to make sure that we have strong fundamentals and great service to customers who consume data on our network.
TBH I was imagining something large and heavy on top of towers that will need a trained crew of people to install
If it can be carried so easily, the future of laser based wifi might be actually closer than i thought
Hi WiFi Dabba Team! I have been involved in this project from season 1 and am glad to be a part of this community.
Great introduction about the project. Being a contributor to this project, I am very confident that the project reaches its height soon.
Very excited for the token generation event and LFG platform. The initiatives being taken for expanding the Dabba network such as bundle offerings to the customers (providing them Netflix and Hotstar etc.) to boost the consumption of the data is pretty interesting. The greatest advantage of Dabba in my view is the hotspot owners ability to manage their hotspots from the comfort of their home as the LCOs (field experts) do all the heavy lifting is genius! Great work by the Dabba team! Hope the season 2 will be a great hit as well. Looking forward to share about this project to friends and family and to contribute more. Good luck to everyone!!
bold vision, good to see this is actually live on ground. Congratulations
I see there are multiple stakeholders in addition to owning a hotspot
I have a small LCO business in Haryana, and have been active in the web3 space over the last year.
The LCO business in general has been difficult to grow working solo, working together with a larger brand that aggregates operators sounds like a very good option to expand our business. Specially when you are helping subsidise our cost and bringing us international partners through web3
