Ah well, not that I am not experienced with HM, owning 14 cams myself. The main issue with such projects often is sustainability. HM rewards go down more and more and overall it turned from hype to refunds. That being said the first cams I had gave with the airdrop enough to get the full price back which was simply too good to be true and sustainable. One cam just got the drop only 3 weeks ago and it accounted only for 15% of that purchase while with the now low rewards I am looking at a 2 year ROI there.
I still have to say that their overall performance is still top 20% of last gens DePIN’s, so not like they deserve too much bad. Your case is not too common but I feel you, had similar experience with a project I will not name, which turned me sour while a friend earns good on it.
Ambient Network is built on the ashes of a different project, which of course puts it on far more pressure to perform, but also build upon prior experiences and a legacy network.
I would argue that our users are a special kind of veteran experienced well seasoned DePIN OG’s that will call out on any issues because they can not be played marked cards so to speak.
The very reason why currently sensors are NOT on sale, is because Ambient Network halted all sales on purpose, to not fish people with the carrot on the stick. First the migration and launch on Solana will be completed, TGE will happen early October and only then, when there is tangible proof of the reward model and ROI’s can be calculated, only then the sales will be opened again. For the start it will be only the 25k sensors from the precious IoT framework that run, partially to reward those pioneers but also to prove the value to potential new customers.
The positive thing is, we already know how these devices behave in the field, and in over 2 years, as a remark to your comment, ours never needed firmware updates or some app loading a double layer firmware package that could brick.
The only time you gonna need an app is when onboarding them, for 2 minutes, and that is it.
