haha thanks for catching the type, will fix.

re: the budget - yes its technically only going to 5 people, but in order to make sure that Uplink could replace me if needed without doing another budget vote, we needed to have some additional comp set aside.

So to clarify: there is a compensation plan for the Uplink WG Lead. I (Kash) won’t be taking it, but in the future it might be needed.

I really do think its a strong team, however, the budget is always way too high.

IK people will roast me and say “dont compare a web2 budget to a web3”, but lets be real guys.

I feel a more realistic figure for these creators is 1-2k a month max. This would depend on hitting certain KPI’s, Rewarding hard effort, performance bonuses voted by dao ect.

IK this budget will end up being a default yes vote, but lets keep budgets realistic!

I get that you’re not taking a salary but if that figure is for 6 people, then the stated average salary is incorrect.

$318,000 / 6 = $53,000 per person annually. Divided by 12 = $4,416.67 per month

$318,000 / 5 = $63,600 per person annually. Divided by 12 = $5,300 per month

If it’s truly an average of $5,300 per month for 6 people then the ask would be $381,600

GM GM! I fully support this working group and wanted to give a quick shout out for Seb and his work in simplifying things as a way to widen the net and onboard a more diverse community.

On a side note, the funnel for Jupiter and the WGs could be improved in the sense that it should be working as a flywheel. As opposed to a traditional funnel, a flywheel means there a stronger collaboration between the working groups to the point that the “ACTIVATION” element of the funnel (bottom of the funnel) results in further awareness and, at the same time, the community becomes the trigger (fuel) to spin the wheel faster. This last point is one for @meow to think about.

LFG!

Will this be distributed along the same proportions as the USDC budget (i.e., 31.47% for satellites, 68.53% for WG members)?

I assume they asked because 318k for 5 people across 12 months is 5300 per person per month (average). With 6 people the math doesn’t math.

I love the idea of getting more community engagement out of people other than just developers/people who can code. You guys absolutely have my vote. Good luck we’re all rooting for you!!

We need to not only speak to these audiences, but to actually meet them where they are.**

In my opinion this is the key to onboarding more users to Jupiter and Crypto as a whole, but the additional required ingredient is identifying commonalities between the community you’re engaging, and the thing you’re representing (crypto).

For instance; if I was engaging a gaming community, I would highlight the benefits and use cases of crypto within the future of gaming. Or if I was engaging a political community, I perhaps would explain the original intentions of Crypto and De-Fi, and how they’re politically motivated.

Meeting them where they are can apply to both online and in person, for instance; having a representative hold a stall at an event not related to crypto, such as a university enrolment weekend.

Or engaging with online communities on the various platforms without being dismissed as spam; however, that’s easier said than done as we experienced with our Reddit community.

I think the most effective marketing is positive stories on legitimate news media, which undeniably get people talking about Crypto. Just last night in the pub, a normie brought up Bonk because he read about the good fortunes of the recipients who received the free airdrop worth tens of thousands of dollars.
Sponsored news articles are expensive, but I think they will have far more outreach into the normie-verse than other methods of marketing. Imagine if the BBC tweeted that report about Bonk…

Popping the Crypto X-Twitter bubble and spilling out into X/Twitter would be phenomenal.

Personally, I think there’s too much focus on who’s already involved with Jupiter; they’re already here and engaging. Money would be better spent on the onboarding, but grabbing their attention will be the difficult part. That’s why I would like to see proposals that are designed to do just that.

Thanks for the article, Kash.
