Our mobile-first DePIN approach unlocks numerous business use cases, demonstrating the value of our integrated strategy in achieving both breadth through partnerships and depth through our data network. The four we plan to focus on initially are:

AI Data Collection and Augmentation: We’ve got everything we need for this. From collecting social media data to archiving news sites and providing the data necessary for RAG AIs, this is a prime use case. Nothing will beat real mobile deivces for the quality of data we can collect and the breadth from which we can collect it.

Performance Monitoring: This is a broad category, which includes everything from checking if a site is available from a certain location, determining if SSLs are up and renewed, to doing distributed speed tests on a site in order to report on CDN and hosting speeds, and other performance metrics. We have a significant technology advantage for this product. Most providers are using a handful of data centers, and to the extent that they support monitoring they do so via injected javascript. This significantly limits the scope and types of tests they can offer, limitations which don’t apply to us.

IP Location Data: This data has gotten tremendously expensive recently. For a low end knock-off database, we recently paid $700 for a single server license. The higher end products cost into the thousands and 10s of thousands of dollars. And a lot of this information is older and/or self reported. This is also a task that lets us make use of devices that are on WiFi by allowing us to refine the location of these networks as well.

Chain Analytics / Data: With tons of devices, we can quickly and accurately track all kinds of things that require significant exploration of the chain, such as deposits to specific addresses, dex data and price quotes from various sources. In fact, UpRock can quickly become the most powerful on-chain data tracker or oracle service because of the sheer number of clients in the network which can get data without hitting limits.

Sharing internet bandwidth sounds interesting, but is there a real demand? Who could be a potential recipient and why would they choose UpRock? The next question is how to attract people for whom even BTC is a scam and have never heard of blockchain technology. Imo, people not interested in crypto (90-95% of the population) will not be interested, which means low demand. If you are targeting companies and institutions, what should attract them?

In terms of bandwidth usage, we have controls (and are developing more) to allow users to limit when tasks run, how much bandwidth they may use, etc. We expect that most users will want more bandwidth consumed on their devices, because this obviously provides them with bigger rewards, but if a user has some hard cap, or simply doesn’t want it running at certain times, they can control this as they like (and we will have more fine grained controls in the future, such as only accept tasks that pay more than some value, for certain types, etc).

I’d like to be sure that my personal tasks take priority in bandwidth use and are not slowed down by the background use of your application. It’s important to be able to guarantee users that their mobile’s performance remains optimal and reserved for their own use in real time. This point hasn’t been raised sufficiently; you simply refer to active management that the user can exercise manually in on/off mode. Can you elaborate on this?

I come from cyber sec, specifically end point protection. We have to deal with massive fraud farms and bot armies all day, every day. Many of them come from seemingly legit IPs.

When I saw you’d pay users to solve CAPTCHAS I was like: “oh we’re going to block you if we see you”. We use CAPTCHAs in our defence toolkit and I’ve never once seen a service that paid for CAPTCHAs to be solved be used for anything but fraud. And we serve billions of sessions a day.

How are you going to ensure your service is being used for AI and not by the types of fraudsters I have to protect my customers from every day who are using services much like what you’re building in order to disguise their activities?

We’ve reviewed Grass before and found serious security issues with their model. I would caution anyone using it to be very careful, you risk your IP reputation being destroyed if bad actors are piggy backing on your bandwidth to carry out attacks.
